María Angélica Burgos

Prior of being Partner Baker McKenzie | International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution and founding Burgos Dispute Resolution, María Angélica was as a Senior Associate at Baker McKenzie’s Bogotá office, a Partner at Zuleta Abogados Asociados and Senior Associate with Gómez-Pinzón Zuleta Abogados.

Before private practice, she was an advisor to the government of Colombia, and as such, she participated in the negotiation of International Investment Agreements on behalf of Colombia and advised on investment dispute prevention and management. María Angélica was also a University Trainee at the International Court of Justice.

María Angélica has been recognized by Who’ Who Legal as a Future Leader in Arbitration (2019-2024), a Global Elite Thought Leader-Under 45 (2023, 2024) and by Best Lawyers in the field of Arbitration (2020-2023).

• Represented a Colombian company in an ICC arbitration related to the construction of an underground infrastructure, seated in Medellin, Colombia.
• Represented a Colombian company in an ICC arbitration related to the construction of certain infrastructure to be used in public utilities, seated in New York City, USA.
• Represented a Spanish company in an ICC arbitration, seated in Bogota, Colombia, related to the exercise of certain post-closing rights in a joint-venture agreement.
• Represented a Colombian company in an ICC arbitration, seated in Bogota, Colombia, related to the exercise of rights in a share purchase agreement.
• Represented a group of companies affiliated to a multinational corporation, in an ICC arbitration, seated in Bogota, arising out of a dispute concerning the termination of a commercial relationship.
• Represented a Spanish multinational and a Colombian company, as members of a joint venture, in an ICC arbitration seated in Bogota, Colombia related to a dispute on the construction of a port in Latin America.
• Represented a Latin-American financial group in an ICC arbitration seated in Bogota, Colombia, in a dispute concerning the exercise of post-closing rights contained in a share purchase agreement.
• Represented a group of companies in the agricultural sector in a domestic arbitration concerning shareholder disputes. The arbitration was seated in Bogota, Colombia and conducted under the rules of the Center of Arbitration and Conciliation of the Chamber of Commerce of Bogota.
• Represented the members of an international consortium in annulment proceedings of an international award before the Supreme Court of Justice of Colombia.
• Advised an American company in recognition and enforcement proceedings of a foreign award before the Colombian Supreme Court of Justice.
